On April 15, 2026, in Dushanbe, at the International University of Tourism and Entrepreneurship of Tajikistan, the Summit of Green University Rectors titled “Universities of the Future: Green. Digital. Smart” was held with the participation of the international partner UI GreenMetric World University Rankings, as well as 150 rectors of higher education institutions from within the country and abroad, along with professors and scholars from various fields.
The summit was opened by the Rector of the International University of Tourism and Entrepreneurship of Tajikistan, Professor Ubaydullo Sattor Asrorzoda. In his speech, he emphasized that sustainable development, environmental protection, and the implementation of green technologies in higher education institutions are among the priority directions of educational policy.
It was noted that universities can play a key role as centers of knowledge creation and innovation in the implementation of the green economy.
This was followed by speeches from the Assistant to the President of the Republic of Tajikistan for Economic Affairs Nematullo Hikmatullozoda; Deputy Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Tajikistan Lutfia Abduholikzoda; First Deputy Head of the Agency for Supervision in Education and Science under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Davud Alizoda; Regional Director of the Asian Development Bank in Tajikistan Ko Sakamoto; UI GreenMetric Director from the University of Indonesia Dr. Vishnu Juwono; Deputy Mayor of Dushanbe Dilbar Odilzoda; UI GreenMetric Deputy Director Dr. Abellia Anggi Wardani; Rector of Daffodil International University (Bangladesh); Rector of NED University Karachi (Pakistan) Dr. Muhammad Tufail; Rector of Kayseri University (Türkiye) Dr. Kurtulus Karamustafa; Rector of Holy Angel University (Philippines) Dr. Leopaldo Jaime N. Valdes; Vice-Rector for Infrastructure and Facilities of the University of Indonesia Dr. Agus Setiawan; Vice-Rector for Postgraduate Education and Research of Al-Mustaqbal University (Saudi Arabia); and Rector of Tajik Technical University named after M. Osimi, Professor Davlatzoda Kudrat Kambar.
Speakers expressed gratitude to the leadership of the International University of Tourism and Entrepreneurship of Tajikistan for organizing such a high-level event and noted that the summit serves as an important platform for expanding international cooperation, exchanging experience, and implementing joint scientific research projects in the field of sustainable development and green technologies.
It was also emphasized that the expansion of green university networks, the introduction of international environmental standards into education and management processes, and the development of sustainable infrastructure can significantly contribute to improving education quality and environmental protection.
At the end of the summit, participants expressed their readiness to further strengthen cooperation and implement joint initiatives in the field of sustainable development.
It was also noted that events within the International Forum “Cooperation for Sustainable Development. Green. Digital. Smart.” are continuing.
